Quick Statistic: Did you know that of all the people
who are working directly in the trades, transportation and equipment sector
in Saskatchewan, 6.12 % are women - according to Statistics Canada 2011.
It is with this knowledge in-hand that the YWCA is
working to develop a pre-trades pilot program aimed at providing women support
and information to help them with developing a sustaining career in the trades.
To date, the YWCA has undertaken an Industry Feasibility Study that indicates
Industry’s identified need and support for the development of such a program
(Phase 1). We are now in the important second phase of hearing women’s direct
voice. To-date, we have held two focus groups asking women directly
through a facilitated discussion about their experiences and hopes regarding a
future for women in the trades.
On behalf of
the YWCA, I am inviting you to participate in what we are titling this
phase, the Women's Voice project. For some this may be a reminder email for
others we welcome your interest.
Please spend a few minutes to help the YWCA develop a
successful pilot project. We want to hear from you, if you are a woman
who is:
· Of
High School age or older interested in a career in the trades;
· Who
currently is employed in or who has had a career in the trades, or;
· Who
are knowledgeable, connected and supportive of industry and the trades.
The information that we are gathering will inform a
pre-trades program that will be available to women in 2015. Please add
your voice to this important program.
And, please be sure to forward this request
along with a personal note of encouragement to other women you know who’s voice
would be important to help inform this process.
All
participants who participate will be entered to win a grand prize of an IPad
Mini. The cut-off for this survey will be Monday, April 28th.
Thank you
for your time and have a good day,
Alicia Buckley
