Note: Paper-based testing will be eliminated by December 2013. The new computer-based testing model will begin September 2013 for all first-time writers. Candidates who have begun writing paper-based GED® Tests or who are rewriting will complete a paper-based GED® Test until December 2013.

GED Skill Boosters - GED Essay Writing Booster

These courses are designed to help GED candidates who are weak in essay writing skills. This might include candidates who are writing the GED tests for the first time or candidates who are re-writing. Some candidates may chose to take more than one skill booster to attain the level of skill competency required to successfully pass the GED exams.

These courses are designed to help GED candidates who are weak in math skills. This might include candidates who are writing the GED tests for the first time or candidates who are re-writing. Some candidates may chose to take more than one skill booster to attain the level of skill competency required to successfully pass the GED exams.  

General Educational Development (GED) Preparation

Gaining a GED 12 equivalency can provide you with an alternative high school standing. Completing your GED may help you qualify for a better job or gain admittance to some post-secondary institutions. The preparation classes will prepare you to write the GED exam by refreshing your skills, familiarizing you with the test format and building your confidence in taking timed tests. Practice tests and instruction in subject areas (Language Arts Writing, Language Arts Reading, Social Studies, Science and Mathematics) will be covered.

General Educational Development (GED) Exam

The GED exam provides an alternative for adults who wish to obtain a high school standing. The GED exam is a five-part, multiple choice and essay exam which tests Language Arts Writing, Language Arts Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science during approximately 7 ½ hours of examination time (see GED Testing Schedules below). The GED exam tests intellectual maturity as opposed to the ability to recall specific facts in a given subject area. Many of the test questions measure the adult’s general ability to evaluate on the basis of given information, synthesize and then draw conclusions.

GED Exams

Congratulations and good luck to the 12 adult learners from the YWCA Saskatoon E&L's GED Preparation Program who are writing GED exams at SIAST Kelsey Campus between June 12 and June 14.

All testing will occur in Room 422A.  Try to be outside the room 15 minutes prior to the scheduled exam.

All necessary materials required to write such as pens, pencils, calculators , scrap paper, will be provided for all students.

All students require photo ID and their approval from the Ministry at the time of registration.

Exams are as follows:

Tuesday June 12, 2012 - Writing

Wednesday June 13, 2012 - Math, Reading

Thursday June 14, 2012 -Science, Social Studies

GED Saskatoon

In today’s competitive job market, it is difficult to find employment without a grade 12 graduation certificate.  Many adult learners pursue their grade 12 by writing the General Educational Development (or GED) Examination.   The GED Examination consists of five separate tests:

• Language Arts Reading
• Language Arts Writing
• Mathematics
• Science
• Social Studies.

Tests are designed to measure the knowledge and skills students would normally acquire after four years of high school.

The YWCA Saskatoon offers a GED Preparation Course to participants of its Employment Service for Parents Program.  In order to be eligible for the ESP Program participants are required to be in receipt of a provincial financial assistance program (i.e.: SAP or TEA) and have a child under the age of eighteen.
